Much good is trying to be done with these printers. Scientists are actually working on ways to have these printers produce functioning organs for humans from a single cell. This could be a huge help to those in need of organ transplants with difficulty finding a donor. Scientists are also working on making food with these printers. These scientists are claiming that the meats that these printers will produce will be better for people than meat from the grocery store because it will be constructed with the best proteins, healthiest fats, and saturated with essential vitamins and minerals.
There has been much positive excitement that has come along with the 3D printer, however, there have also already been problems. These printers use plastic or metal and specific programing designs to print fully functioning objects. People have already made functioning guns out of the printers plastic material, and these guns are still just as powerful. Although these printed guns are not extremely durable, they will hold up long enough to get many people seriously injured or killed. These plastic guns have been banned because they are potentially dangerous. Since they are plastic, they are undetectable in metal detectors.
These printers have great potential, however they could be extremely dangerous for the everyday person to have. It is said that these printers are capable of making anything they are told. To me, this is a very scary thought. I believe that the potential harm outweighs the good. I do not think that people should be allowed to own these machines. There needs to be some sort of restrictions on who can and can not own these printers.
