Guitar Hero
I chose the article "Why the Music Industry Hates Guitar Hero" in chapter 14 of the Argument! Textbook. This article written by Jeff Howe explains to readers the thoughts of the people in the music business. These people are extremely unhappy that album sales have dropped 19 percent after agreeing to have their songs added to the game's playlist. Games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero have been very successful which is making the music industry unhappy because they believe they are not getting the money they deserve. In my opinion, the music industry should be thanking these games for getting artists more attention.
The article briefly mentions that Rock Band and Guitar Hero consist of older songs and bands that are lacking fans. These games are also a great way to introduce newer bands to people. When people have an opportunity to listen or play a song that they enjoy, there is a much better chance of the player to become curious in what the artist's other songs are like. Otherwise these rookie artists may never get the chance to be heard by millions of people playing these great games.
The music industry is just being greedy because a gaming company is making a decent amount of money from using their songs. These music producing companies are demanding more money from the gaming companies, which is causing the gaming companies to fight back and stop using certain companies’ music. I do not think that the music industry deserves more money because they are allowing their songs to be used on a successful game. The gaming company is putting forth the extra efforts to get the extra result; therefore, they deserve the money they are getting.
